The Devil's Hothouse
I had such fun painting this. It started with some smudges on the canvas, and like the botanical forms themselves, just grew. The creases and crevices became more sexual, which is what gave me the idea of the Devil having a greenhouse on his property heated (of course) for growing tropical plants--or souls. And what's one of the things that we associate with temptation and the devil but sexuality. I enjoyed using a demonic orange and a shades of hell purple to accomplish color vibration in this painting. Nothing evil here--just the sheer joy of the body.
The original oil painting is 16 x 20"/41 x 51cm on canvas with a traditional profile (3/4"), ready to frame.
