In this painting, I tried to capture the masculine, Fiery energy of Mars without lapsing into hokey imagery. I combined a phallic symbol with, on the one hand, the form of a lighthouse with its brilliant guiding and protecting light, and on the other, the form of a type of mushroom that is usually considered very masculine in form. These shrooms have a veil. I turned this veil up and made it formed of light. I rooted this image in the Earth, surrounded it by wisps of smoke, but also included symbols flying around the form to signify the power of the Fire of Mars.
