Elevation of Mars, Vessels Series
Probably the most complex image I've created so far, this surreal landscape painting combines concepts related to various aspects of the planetary energy of Mars. In the background is a tower struck by lightning; Mars rules The Tower card in the Tarot, and that card means, at the very least, transformation. That's what is going on in this painting. The background is a desert, a Mars environment, and is based loosely on Monument Valley. The vessel in the foreground contains a Western coral snake, a venomous snake native to the area; venomous critters are ruled by Mars. But it is here transformed into the thorny wild red rose, which still has the "sting" of a Mars plant but has morphed from toxic to beneficient. The red wild rose is particularly a symbol of the Elemental Fire aspect of Mars. Below the vessel are various sorts of succulents, especially cacti, which are Mars plants and which further have red blooms, red being a Mars color. All told, this painting tells of the lifting of Mars energy from dangerous and toxic to beneficent and helping. This painting is a continuation of my series Vessels and my delving into magic realism.
The giclee prints are on 100% cotton archival fine art paper, colors are matched to the original by the artist, and they are signed on the back. The original acrylic painting is 18 x 24"/46 x 61cm on canvas with a 1.5" profile and has been sold.
