Dryads were spirits of trees in ancient Greece, but the concept has occurred in other cultures and persists today. Generally, they have been seen as female and friends of Artemis, goddess of the hunt and the Moon. I often see human figures in natural forms like trees, rocks, and hills, and they often seem to be dancing. This particular image is based on a wonderfully twisted tree I've seen in North Burial Ground in Providence.
The original watercolor painting is 11.25 x 15.25"/29 x 39cm on heavy archival watercolor paper and is ready to frame. Giclee prints are printed on 100% cotton paper using pigment inks.
