Deindustrialization - Surreal Landscape Painting

$ 450.00

When things break down, other things step in. That's what this painting is about. For me, having seen a lot of abandoned industrial sites, one of the things that seems important--powerful, in a quiet way--is how nature reclaims industrial areas, whether they are old factories or burial sites of toxic wastes. The plants move in and take over, and by extension, I think the animals and people move in and begin the process of healing. This is something that lifts me up and gives me hope. Here, we see people moving towards a life much more connected to land (or water) and although death has occurred due to the poisonousness of a previous way of life, it's possible to find a new way, one that is beautiful and peaceful.

The original surreal landscape painting is 16 x 20" on heavy cotton watercolor paper and should be framed behind glass or acrylic because it is a mix of watercolor and colored pencil.
