Coffins and Orbs Study
This small dark painting is a study for a much larger work featuring a pile of coffins on a Victorian street. I had the idea for this somewhat goth painting while watching a show and seeing a series of what looked like gaslights down a dark street. I liked the shapes of the lights and then had an image pop into my head about a pile of coffins below these lights, perhaps on a cobblestone street. I gathered a number of reference photos of antique coffins and also sent for some wood blocks to arrange in a pile until I got a pleasing form. You wouldn't believe how difficult it is to find blocks with the general dimensions of coffins! I couldn't wait for the blocks to come and just got started, using my imagination. The gaslights morphed into orbs, which I liked much more. When the blocks get here, I will start working on a larger painting, but meanwhile. this is my study of the idea.
The giclee prints are on 100% cotton archival fine art paper, colors are matched to the original by the artist, and they are signed on the back. The original acrylic painting is 9 x 12" / 23 x 30 cm on canvas with a traditional 3/4" / 2cm depth and requires framing.
