Sunwheel Surreal Landscape Painting and Prints
My next step on the path of surrealist landscape, Sunwheel began as a straightforward painting of a very calm day on Seneca Lake--the kind of day where the water swells rather than breaks in waves. I wanted to feature a sun spirit in the painting and was inspired by the petals of gaillardia flowers, which are very Sun-like. As I painted, though, the image shifted and became a combination of petals and the human iris, which also has a very Sun form. This motif took me quite a while to paint, as I had to keep strengthening the color. Gradually I got it to where I wanted it to be and ended up with a work of magic realism. This painting is linked with Rose Moon Spirit.
The giclee prints are on 100% cotton archival fine art paper, colors are matched to the original by the artist, and they are signed on the back. The original acrylic painting is 18 x 24" / 46 x 61cm on birch panel with a gallery profile and is ready to hang. It was shown in the Art League Rhode Island Associate Members Exhibit 2017.
